Thanksgiving Food Drives 101
November 3, 2017How to Host a Thanksgiving Food Drive
It happens every year: November rolls around, the air starts to get crisp and suddenly they’re everywhere, Food Drives! Food Drives are a Holiday-time staple, and for good reason, every year food drives around our community alone enable us to feed thousands hungry families for Thanksgiving. Food insecurity is already a huge issue, and September’s Hurricane Irma made it worse for many of our SWFL families.
If you have been wondering how you can help, especially if you can’t afford to donate financially, food drives are for you! Every little bit counts, and we are here to help you get on your way to food drive success!
1. Email us at Thanksgiving@CommunityCooperative.com! We will sign you up but you don’t have to have it all figured out to get started.
2. Pick a theme – we are running the Full Plates Project, but you can call your drive anything in support of Community Cooperative! Be creative or keep it simple, this part is up to you.
3. Decide on a location & dates for your drive. Keep convenience in mind unless you are volunteering to collect all the donations, too. Think of your community and where people tend to congregate naturally, this could be at work, school, your place of worship or a club. Set up a cardboard box and a sign, place some donated canned goods inside, and you’re ready to host a food drive!
4. Promote your food drive! You could do this via social media, emails, or actual flyers posted around town. Remember to also ask friends, family, co-workers and classmates to help raise awareness about your food drive.
5. Share pictures and update videos about your progress and don’t forget to document your experience dropping off your donated items at Community Cooperative.
6. Deliver all your collected food items to Community Cooperative by November 17.
7. We will fill out an In-Kind Donation receipt for you, and you will be on your way!
