Meals on Wheels Loves Pets
June 18, 2022Meet Dan & Teddy
Many of our Meals on Wheels clients not only count on food for themselves, but also rely on necessary food and resources for their pets. Continue reading to learn more about one of our clients and his furry companion!
Dan McCaslin is a military veteran and wore many hats throughout his career. He spent most of his life in Naples, Florida and he moved to Fort Myers, Florida a few years ago. It was then that he started to receive Meals on Wheels, and over the past couple of years, Dan has experienced health problems in addition to losing a child. He was able to stay positive with the help of his dog, Teddy.
Teddy was given to Dan by his daughter after she realized that caring for her was better suited for her dad. Teddy is a beautiful Whoodle (a cross between the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and Poodle dog breeds) and she’s about three years old. She is a bundle of energy, affectionate, and playful. In addition, Teddy has been a source of pure joy for Dan and has been his companion for the last few years.
Dan stated, “[Teddy] is healthy, happy, active, and …. without the Meals on Wheels program, I would have had to have given her up. I would have not been able to take care of her. Not having food for her and having to give her up would have been like losing another child.” Dan continued, “The food has meant the world to us.”
Through generous program support from organizations like Meals on Wheels of America and PetSmart Charities, Community Cooperative is able to assist Meals on Wheels clients in addition to their pets to ensure they remain happy and healthy, together.
