Holiday Outreach Success!
January 30, 2018Holiday Outreach Success!
2017 was another year of record breaking numbers for Community Cooperative. We served more neighbors in need than ever before. More families were helped through our Healthy School Pantries and Community Mobile Food Pantries, and we had hundreds more families shopping in our Community Market to access fresh healthy groceries. While we are of course more than happy to help, we are saddened to see the ever-increasing need for food and services amongst our neighbors throughout SWFL. This trend also continued in our two holiday outreach programs, Adopt-A-Senior and Adopt-A-Family. This past holiday season, we provided Christmas gifts to nearly 300 homebound seniors on our Meals on Wheels program and to over 80 families in need, more than double the numbers of our previous year’s outreach.
The biggest increase we saw in 2017 Holiday Outreach, was in the area of walk-ins & through our school based referral programs. We work in partnership with many other local agencies and case workers to identify families who are most at risk for being unable to provide their children with what they need on Christmas. So many of our families asked for just the bare necessities: food, socks, underwear, school clothes, and hygiene supplies. Our donors delivered that and so much more. These children were blessed with the not only these basic needs and food for Christmas, but also bicycles, art supplies, books, toys for every age and interest, shoes, sports equipment, and so much more.
We were so thrilled to be able to provide gifts to so many children and families who otherwise would have gone without this year, and we couldn’t have done this without the faithful support of our many donors and supporters. We are so grateful to each-and-every person, community group and business who reached out to support this amazing campaign, and hope to be able to support even more seniors and families in 2018.
