Sam Galloway Jr. & and Friends Soup Kitchen Benefit
Event Navigation
My friends,
Because of you, being able to feed our hungry neighbors is not a dream for me but a reality. As we celebrate the 14th Anniversary of the Sam Galloway, Jr. & Friends Soup Kitchen Benefit, I am so thankful for everyone who has helped Community Cooperative accomplish great things. Sadly, there is still a tremendous need and more work to be done.
Our reality in Lee County is that nearly 120,000 (17%) of our neighbors and friends are at risk for being hungry every day. Of that one-fourth are children. The Lee County School District has 700 documented homeless children in its classrooms and 70% of its 92,000 students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, up 20% from 2008. Our homebound senior citizens are falling below poverty levels faster than ever and the demand for Meals on Wheels is overwhelming.
The epidemic of hunger in our nation, particularly in our own backyard, has settled into a new reality for too many of our neighbors, young and old. Community Cooperative is doing their part to end hunger and homelessness in our area by providing access to nutritious meals and groceries along with social and education services to ensure that a positive, sustainable life change is attainable for everyone who enters their doors.
I’m hoping you will once again join the fight to end hunger and homelessness in our community by gathering your friends together for a table at the 14th Annual Soup Kitchen Benefit on March 9, 2017.
Sincerely,
Sam Galloway, Jr.
