Community Cooperative Collaborative Pop-Up Mobile Food Pantry In Immokalee Serves 224 Households
Urgent Need for Support In Food Desert Areas
FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 26, 2024) – In an effort to combat food insecurity, Community Cooperative held a pop-up mobile food pantry in collaboration with The Immokalee Foundation and Midwest Food Bank in Immokalee, where an overwhelming 224 households were provided with emergency groceries. This mobile food pantry served as a reminder of the critical need for accessible food resources in food desert areas where residents face limited access to nutritious, affordable groceries.
Immokalee, a rural area often referred to as a food desert, has long struggled with its limited access to food. The recent pop-up pantry confirmed just how dire the situation is, with families in desperate need of basic food supplies. Community Cooperative is committed to meeting this need, but they cannot do it alone.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of The Immokalee Foundation and Midwest Food Bank, which made it possible for us to provide emergency groceries to 224 households,” said Jade Bird, Director of Development at Community Cooperative. “However, the need continues to grow, and many families are still struggling. To meet this rising demand, we need your help to ensure more families have access to the nutritious food they need.”
