What volunteer opportunities are there at Community Cooperative?
September 9, 2016Volunteer in Our Many Programs!
- Sam’s Community Café & Kitchen (Soup Kitchen)
- Help prepare, and serve nutritious meals for our neighbors in need. Volunteers assist in the kitchen and café to clean and create a welcoming environment for all. Perfect for individuals or small groups looking to make a direct impact.
- Community Market On Demand
- Assist with organizing, restocking, and helping clients navigate our appointment-based emergency food pantry. Volunteers support an efficient shopping experience for families and individuals facing food insecurity. Tasks may include packing bags, greeting clients, or helping with check-in. This involves lifting and bending.
- Meals on Wheels
- Deliver nutritious meals and provide friendly check-ins to homebound neighbors, helping them stay safe and independent. When you first sign up, you’ll be paired with an experienced driver for a ride-along to learn the route and procedures. Volunteers pick up meals at 8:30 AM from our main campus or one of our satellite locations, then spend about 2 to 2½ hours delivering during the morning hours (8:30–10:30 AM).
- If you prefer helping behind the scenes, join our early-morning team preparing, cooking, and packaging meals starting as early as 6:00 AM on weekdays.
- Food Literacy in People (FLIP)
- Assist with hands-on food preparation or helping in the classroom alongside Community Cooperative staff. Volunteers help teach children and adults about nutrition and healthy eating in fun and engaging ways—sometimes even in costume! This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy education, cooking, and connecting with the community.
- Administrative Help
- Support our team behind the scenes with essential office tasks like collecting client surveys, filing, assembling mailings, and assisting with special projects. Perfect for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy organization and helping in a quieter setting. Volunteers are needed across all program areas.
- Able Garden
- Assist with planting, weeding, harvesting, and general garden upkeep. No experience needed—just a willingness to learn and get involved. Great for individuals or small groups who enjoy being outdoors and making a difference from the ground up.
