Community Cooperative Raises Awareness during National Hunger Action Month: Join Us in the Fight Against Hunger and Homelessness in SWFL
FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 10, 2024) – September is National Hunger Action Month, a critical period dedicated to spotlighting and combating food insecurity. For Community Cooperative, this year marks a forty-year commitment to ending hunger and homelessness in southwest Florida.
Our community faces a significant challenge: approximately 1 in 6 residents struggle with food insecurity, including over 4,000 children under 18 in Lee County alone. These alarming figures highlight the urgent need for immediate, collective action and support.
In response to National Hunger Action Month, Community Cooperative is ramping up efforts to gather and distribute essential food supplies to those in need. “Food insecurity is a daily struggle for many families in our community,” says Rebecca Busby, Food Programs Director at Community Cooperative. “As we work to alleviate this issue, we remember that every meal we provide is a step toward a future where no one has to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table.”
